Saturday, October 24: Bodies of Water, Earth as Partner w/ Kara Komarnitsky

Class Description: This class specifically will explore advanced floorwork technique through the lens of earth as partner and gravity as guide. We will explore practices of conserving momentum, softening into impact, and expanding to find center, taking lessons from water to inspire our movement.
KARA KOMARNITSKY is an interdisciplinary artist currently making work in Salt Lake City. Her artistic practice approaches the complexity of human interconnection with the planet, seeking to make visible the invisible forces underlie our lives and connect us to each other – envisioning and transforming our collective idea of where our bodies end and where they begin. Since receiving her BFA from Ohio State University in 2022, she has performed with Myriad Dance Company, Fem Dance Company, and Repertory Dance Theatre amongst many community shows; her work has been presented at Illuminate Salt Lake Festival, Utah Dance Film Festival, Queer Spectra Arts Festival, 801 Salon, Red Rock Dance Festival, Playground Dance Project, Material Gallery, and RDT’s LINK series; and she has been teaching movement practices for over a decade. Kara continually seeks out new avenues to deepen embodiment, connect to land, and cultivate wonder in her communities.

Special Sliding Scale Rate: For those in financial need, a sliding scale is available of $9-14. No questions asked.
Work Study: Work Study is offered for one to two people each season. Work Study is intended for those in financial need who intend to take classes regularly. Please contact Nichele if you are interested!
Logistics: Preregistration is not required. Please arrive early to complete payment and sign liability waivers. Class will start and end right on time! New-to-class dancers, please allow at least 10 minutes to complete paperwork and settle in.
