This June I am excited to share a new work-in-progress with the Bay Area community at RAWdance's CONCEPT series: 23. In my previous life-chapter, I worked for RAWdance as an administrative assistant and helped them with this series when it was first moving to the beautiful Green Room of the SF War Memorial & Performing Arts Center. This history with the company makes CS:23 feel like a true homecoming and I can't wait to be back!
About the work:
Later this year I will present an evening-length thesis concert at the University of Utah, where I am currently heading into my final year of the 3-year MFA program in Modern Dance. As I approach this new work I am occupied by questions of control (or a persistent lack of it), impermanence and mortality, and am curious about what it means to be an artist and to make art in relationship to these most dependable qualities of life.
For the CONCEPT series, Natalie Border and E'lise Jumes will perform an excerpt (in-progress) from this larger work. Within the duet, the dancers circle and tumble (symbolically and literally) around a desire for tenderness, stability, and knowledge. It is yet to be known if they will get there. They are truly sensational performers—I hope you will join us!
