Saturday, February 14: Contemporary with Maeve Friedman

Class Description: Class will begin with a gentle, somatic warm up experience to arrive, relax our nervous systems and become in tune with our body’s sensations and warmth. Guided improvisation will move us through several layered ideas such as falling, stream of consciousness, + energy levels.
Class will then become more structured through standing, across the floor, and center phrases that encourage expansive movement through weighted release. Music will be moving us as we see the space around us and find joy in dancing soft and wide!
MAEVE FRIEDMAN (she/her) is a SLC freelance artist originally from Maryland and Maine. Her dancing perspective is informed by her time at UNC School of the Arts, SALT2 Contemporary Dance Company, Bates Dance Festival, and notably, her time spent not dancing. Maeve is currently a collaborative artist with SLC dance collective Fleet Co-Operative. Over the past two years Maeve has made work with collaborator Mads Ward, most recently choreographing for Playground Dance Project. Within her choreographic projects, she is currently fascinated with improvisation, humor and character, the multidisciplinary possibilities of voice and props, + the relationship between control vs. trust.
