The Woods Dance Project cultivates the artistic vision of choreographer Nichele Woods by developing bold dance works that are informed by the present moment and honor the lived experiences and identities of the performers. Through our productions and programming, we strive to positively contribute to our creative community by upholding the rigor of contemporary dance and promoting equity, career sustainability, and opportunities for local professional and aspiring contemporary dance artists.
Nichele Woods and movement artist Melissa Younker present a fresh movement study, exploring the very early stages of a new evening work coming 2027.
Regular Contemporary classes are held for pre- and professional-level dancers on Saturdays at Performing Dance Center (Salt Lake City). All class revenue directly supports the teaching artists and The Woods Dance Project’s programming.

Wishing you health, joy, connection, and peace during these strange and trying times.
Warmly, Nichele
“Knowing you are alive is feeling the planet buck under you, rear, kick, and try to throw you; you hang onto the ring. It is riding the planet like a log downstream, whooping. Or, conversely, you step aside from the dreaming fast loud routine and feel time as a stillness about you, and hear the silent air asking in so thin a voice, Have you noticed yet that you will die? Do you remember, remember, remember? Then you feel your life as a weekend, a weekend you cannot extend, a weekend in the country. O Augenblick verweile” –Annie Dillard, 1987.
